Danny Brown’s biography, condensed into one minute for UNIQLO Life In A Minute: Danny Brown.

Everything can change…IN A NEW YORK MINUTE. Best Eagles Sample Flip Ever. Ok, it’s a Don Henley song, but still…

Beastie Boys 1985 “Beastie Groove” LIVE from Madonna’s “Like A Virgin” Tour.

Haven’t thrown anything up here about Adam Yauch yet, but I knew I needed to, so here goes. I probably have more Beastie memories that any other band ever. One in particular is right here:

I moved to NYC in 1990. I was 15. In the fall of 1991, I went to a Beastie Boys show (by myself) at a club in NYC called “The Building”. This was just before “Check Your Head” came out. When I got there, I was just expecting The Beasties and DJ Hurricane. I was completely floored when they came out wielding instruments, and proceeded to play some of their old hardcore/punk songs, along with some of the songs that would be on “Check Your Head”, with bass, drums and guitar. My 16 year old mind went splodey. I had no idea what was going on, and I was alone, so I had no one to share it with. I grew up on hardcore, going to see Bad Brains and Murphy’s Law since I was 12 or so, so I was familiar with the sounds, but I was not expecting them to manifest at this point in time. Thanks Beasties! Thanks M.C.A. R.I.P. ADAM YAUCH.

Style Wars 2 is coming…But it’s a “parody”?

R.I.P. Kase 2 - KING OF STYLE
I was not around NYC in the 70s and 80s to witness the Graf Revolution, but a lot of people I know were. I have learned a bit about this time from the elders that I’ve been lucky enough to meet throughout the years. They all hold Kase 2 in high regard. MTV did a piece on Kase 2 last night.
Also, my alma mater Frank151 has a nice piece as well, with videos. Oh, and if you haven’t watched Style Wars yet, please slap yourself, then DO SO.
Also, for a good piece from a Graf insider, check Mare 139’s blog.

This Wednesday, I’m going to be over at Fat Buddha Bar, DJing with one of my biggest influences, KOOOOOOOOOOOOOL DJ RED ALERT. Red is the daddy of the Native Tongue Crew, and SO MUCH MORE. I used to listen to Red rock on the radio when I was 15 years old, and had just moved to NYC from Boston. The songs that got played on his show are forever embedded in my memory, and formed some of the most important aspects of the way I view music, and DJ Culture.
I’ve been lucky enough to spin with Red Alert two times already. This will be the third.
